The Christmas Post

God, Holidays, christianity, family, food, fotos, roadtrip 26 December 2007 | 0 Comments

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and at least took some time to remember why we really celebrate it.
Sure, you constantly hear people say “Jesus is the reason for the season,” and see plenty of church signs with the same statement, but is that really at the forefront of our minds this time of year. I admit I haven’t spent as much time focused on Christ or in the celebration of His birth as I should. It’s so easy to get caught up in earthly celebrations of gifts, food, and even that of family. Not that there’s anything wrong with celebrating family (or food, or how blessed we are to be able to give and receive gifts), but let us not forget what it’s all about. Celebrate and have joy in our Savior!

Tomorrow I will be leaving for Ocala to go to Holiday Youth Convention. I made a sort-of last minute decision to go; I’m getting to old for it and I figured if I didn’t go this year, I would definitely feel too old to go next year—not that there won’t be other older than I there, there definitely will be.
I’m bringing my laptop along in hopes that there will be free wireless in the hotel, but with the expectation that I won’t have much time to use it anyway.

Save the Worst for Last

Holidays, books, college, computing, food, internets, movies, tech 13 December 2007 | 1 Comment

My last final is tomorrow, the much-dreaded history final. I’ve never done well in history and this professor’s “fit as much non-chronologically relayed information into an hour and 15 minutes as possible with no discussion” method does not help me.

After tomorrow I will be free until January 7. Here’s some of the things I’m going to be doing:

·A lot of reading
·Relaxing
·Watching movies
·Moving my site to Wordpress (real Wordpress with real hosting, w00t!)
·Making my Christmas list
·Shopping (hopefully)
·Eating!

Oh yeah, if you have this site bookmarked with any url other than http://ohbuoyancy.net change your bookmark to that now as any other address will quit working when I switch to Wordpress over the next couple days. Also if you subscribe to the rss feed it will no longer work, so check http://ohbuoyancy.net to see what the new feed is.

In the News

God, christianity, food, fotos, movies, news, politics, relationships, tv 7 July 2007 | 3 Comments

I’m sure most people have heard about Michael Glatze, a gay-rights leader, coming out as straight recently. But maybe you haven’t read his story on WorldNetDaily, he talks about working for magazines aimed at young gay Americans, the 16 years of his life he spent as a gay man, and how forming a relationship with God showed him the truth.
On speaking out on the gay-rights movement he says:

If I could take back some of the things I said, I would. Now I know that homosexuality is lust and pornography wrapped into one. I’ll never let anybody try to convince me otherwise, no matter how slick their tongues or how sad their story. I have seen it. I know the truth.

Full article here, it’s worth the read, really.

In lighter news, a dozen 7-Elevens across the nation have been converted to Kwik-E-Marts to promote The Simpsons Movie. dhepnar has some nice pictures from the one in Canada on Flickr, I especially like the “Thank you for loitering…” sign. A list of the altered stores can be found here. I really want to go to one, but the closest is 6 hours away. They are supposed to have special snack foods and Squishees (which I’m sure is just a regular ol’ Slurpee in a different cup, unfortunately) at all 7-Eleven locations though. Actually, I don’t even know where the nearest 7-Eleven is, I can’t even find one near me on the locator on the site.

Edit: If you go here, this flickr user has collected links to photo sets from all the different Kwik-E-Marts. And there is also a Kwik-E-Mart group on Flickr (though it only has 24 members).

A Pizza And Porn

food, fotos, internets, news 3 July 2007 | 4 Comments

Today I received a message from a fellow flickr user requesting to use one of my photos (this photo) for an article he wrote for NowPublic.com. The article is about a new pizza place in Winnipeg that serves porn. That’s right, pizza and porn. If I read correctly the place is even called Porno Pizza, and has pornographic images under the pizzas. Read it for yourself.

I declined the request, I just don’t want my photos associated with something like that.

Don’t Eat It!

food, fotos, friends, internets, loving 7 June 2007 | 2 Comments

Don't Eat It!

Amy was in town yesterday for her birthday. We went to the beach and make this cake, it even has 24 “candles” on it. We parked at the hotel my sister works at now, and we got to meet her “bird friend.” I had to borrow a towel from the hotel, I don’t think I’ve ever forgotten to bring a towel going to the beach before.

Then last night we went to Mori with Amy’s family and Ashley.

Sushi

I tried the crunchy shrimp roll, or whatever it’s called. It was good I like it. I can’t usually eat sushi because of the vinegared rice they use; I have yet to try sashimi, it will happen though.

Ashley made Amy a leg lamp, yes like in A Christmas Story.

In other news, I’m more into Flickr lately. I especially enjoy food oriented groups like I Ate This, and Food Porn. I’m also trying to meet one of my goals of taking at least one picture every day.

There’s a new layout on this site also, you should check it out if you’re not already. I’m still a little unsure of it, but hey, I made those waves with a marker, that’s pretty cool.
