I took a wrong turn today on my way back home (after signing a lease in Tally!). I knew the road I was on would still take me where I needed to go so I didn’t turn around and I was glad. Traveling down this road was so serene and beautiful; it was through one of those few hilly areas of Florida that make you forget you’re in Florida as the road goes up and down and all you can see is trees. It was also at that perfect time of day where the winter sun is in just the right place to give everything an amber glow. On one part of the road where there’s a small bridge over a creek there was a group of people off to the side of the bridge around a bonfire that appeared to be roasting marshmallows; very peaceful.

Many people would be annoyed that they took a wrong turn and let it ruin their whole day through their attitude. Months ago I may have been the same way, but it’s so much easier to not let things like that be a big deal. This turned out to be a good thing. I was being annoyed by a car on the interstate who kept going faster, slower, faster, slower (cruise control is there for a reason, use it!) which is how I ended up distracted and took an exit that looked similar to mine, but was one too early. Because I didn’t let taking a wrong turn upset me it ended up being a fortunate accident. Not only did I get away from a bad driver, I also go to see another beautiful part of God’s creation.

I would love to do something like this. Come to think of it, I would do pretty much anything involving travel if someone paid my expenses. Anyone need an experienced writer to travel the world writing, photographing, and videographing her experiences?

Now the song this makes me think of, Los Campesinos – You! Me! Dancing

There’s no way I could have a “dancing” post without mentioning Brandtson’s “Nobody Dances Anymore,” which spawned many fan-created videos.

What gets you dancing?

I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do this summer. I know I need to find a summer job so I can save some money that will be much needed once I’m off at a university in the fall. I’ve also thought about taking a couple summer classes, creative writing or something possibly. When I really think about what I want to do though I know I would love to just travel throughout the summer.

I would absolutely love to go somewhere overseas, Italy or Paris, or anywhere else I haven’t been, but those are my top 2. Unfortunately I don’t know anyone else who would go and I don’t want to go alone to a country I’ve never been in.

It would be nice to see some places in the states I’ve never been to before, so I could settle for that. Right now I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Anyone care to share their summer plans or dreams? I know you’re out there, I can hear you breathing.

You may have already heard about McDonald’s move to be Starbucks prime competition, but I’m going to talk about it anyway. McDonald’s plans to open coffee bars, “McCafe”s in their US restaurants this year, but will it be successful?

As one commenter on Serious Eats mentions, they’ve had McCafes in Australia for a number of years. When I was in Australia in 2006 I happened to visit a McDonald’s that had one. While it seemed strange to start with, I can definitely see how this could work, in Australia that is.

There, unlike in the US, they have a high concern as to what you put into your body. For example, all of those trans fat laws coming into effect in the states have been in place for years in Australia, their Big Macs are made with meat! Real meat! At first I didn’t like the fries there at all because they we not greasy—soggy, greasy fries being something I was accustomed to at home. But after eating fast food in Australia (and New Zealand) I didn’t feel gross or guilty for putting something (“something” because we don’t know what it is most of the time) unhealthy into my body, because I hadn’t.

Personally, I would consider fast food in Australia real food and nothing like the “mystery meat” we have here and that’s why I think McCafes can work there. Not to say that they won’t work here, I’m not going to make that prediction just yet, but I for one, will not be trying it. I would have to be pretty desperate to buy a specialty coffee drink from a place already considered hazardous to my health, and of which I question the ethics regularly (on an executive and mere associate level).

As a side-note, I don’t care for Starbucks at all, but for other reasons.

What’s your opinion on McDonald’s having baristas? Do you think it will be a success? Will you try it yourself?
